Sand or Rock?

Sand or Rock?

Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine.

Meditation
What is building upon a rock and sand?

What is a building?

A building is a structure of shelter. Shelter from the elements of destruction, disaster and death. We build our ideas into structures, graven images and monuments; the most important part of the structure is the foundation. The foundations of sand are the earthly knowledge, ideas and methods we have deluded ourselves with, hoping that they will save us. The Rock is the Word of God, who is The Christ.

The Rock
Rock-In the natural sense is a confirmed or proven truth. David says, The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple. Order my steps in thy word. Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. The truth of the Word of God is natural, orderly, strong and immovable. In the spiritual sense, is, unfailing quick, powerful, secure shelter, firm, unshakable, the anchor of life,

Building upon the Rock, means to remain in truth and love. Knowing that God is in you and in everyone else. Having hope and faith, and being helpful to others. Seeing God in everybody, having positive thoughts, wishing good to everyone, believing that God cares for you and others, forsaking sin, and uniting with God, moment by moment.

As we believe, we see God’s presence in us. As we forgive others, by not judging them; tolerating others, by being patient with them; enduring the short coming of others, especially when they speak evil of us. The foundation rock is to confess Christ.

The Sand
Sand in natural sense, is unstable. Sand is non cohesive, sinks when walked on, because it does not hold together. Sand is segregated, that is, not united, and it separates when pressure comes. Standing on the sand leads to spiritual failure, wreckage and loss. Spiritually it represents a condition of lack of love, a state of evil, deceit, and mischief. Sand is not strong enough to hold anyone, but it sinks one into final destruction. The quicksand is a death trap.

Conclusion:
Brethren, know that if after ye have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, ye are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with than the beginning.

Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day will declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abides which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
